Dare to Do Theme for 2007-2008 Academic Year

DSU President Dr. Doug Knowlton gave his state of Dakota State speech to faculty and staff yesterday (August 27) using the Eudora Welty quote “Dare to Do” as a theme for the year.

The speech is part of the annual orientation exercises on campus that begin a week before students return to Dakota State. Following introductions of new faculty and staff, Dr. Knowlton unveiled the 2007-2012 Strategic Plan and led the audience through an overview.

The strategic plan, labeled Dakota State University: “FOCUSED” lays the ground work for DSU through 2012. The plan includes benchmarks and goals for seven areas of focus listed below:

  • Expanding Information Technology Leadership
  • Optimizing and Sustaining On-Campus Enrollment
  • Increasing Retention and Graduation by Providing an Exceptional Student Experience
  • Advancing Applied Research
  • Extending Educational Outreach
  • Promoting National and International Visibility
  • Developing New Financial Resources
